AFM Legislative Action Fund & Friends of AFM

Your help is vital to AFM’s legislative success. AFM is launching a fundraising campaign for the AFM Legislative Action Fund (AFM’s political action committee, “PAC”) called “Help Congress Help Musicians” and a new membership drive for Friends of AFM called “Chorus of Voices.” Furthermore, AFM is also making a concerted effort to grow its GetActive e-mail list. All three of these initiatives are designed to achieve the same goal: increase the effectiveness of AFM’s legislative and advocacy efforts.

The “Help Congress Help Musicians” campaign is an ongoing effort to boost AFM’s PAC fundraising. Raising money for the AFM Legislative Action Fund is crucial to AFM’s legislative efforts. Donating to the AFM legislative Action fund allows AFM to contribute to the campaigns of its supporters in Congress, so that they can remain in Congress to fight on AFM’s behalf.

AFM is also launching a membership drive for Friends of AFM, called a “Chorus of Voices.” Friends of AFM is an associate organization of AFM; created for those people that are not professional musicians, but are nevertheless interested in music and arts policy.

Increasing membership in Friends of AFM compliments the AFM Legislative Action Fund. By increasing Friends of AFM’s membership, the more people AFM can ask to write, call, or e-mail their Members of Congress in support of AFM’s issues. Once Members of Congress see that their constituents support an issue, they are very likely to support it.

Similarly, AFM is working to increase the membership of its GetActive e-mail list. Members of AFM’s GetActive e-mail list are political activists.  When the Legislative Office sends out an appeal for members to write Congress, AFM receives a 50% response rate.  This is an unusually high response rate compared to on-line appeals in general.  However, out of AFM’s approximately 77,000 U.S. members, only 17,000 have joined AFM’s e-mail list. If all AFM members join the GetActive data base, and our appeals get the same response rate, thousands more letters will flood Congress supporting AFM’s issues.

Let's get active 586 members, each and every one of us can make an important contribution!
